Sustainable policies must be implemented when conducting projects: Adam Azim

Managing Director of Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) Adam Azim has stated sustainable policies to provide basic services must be implemented when the government is conducting development projects.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Managing Director Adam Azim said the worst issue in the sewerage system of Male' City is that it was installed without a proper plan to cater the growing population in the capital city. Noting water and sewerage are essential services, Adam Azim highlighted the importance of studying the projects and planning for the future to install a suitable network as the population increases gradually.

Furthermore, Azim noted the population of Male' was at 47,000 when the sewerage network was installed and revealed the network had the capacity to cater a population of 100,000, which is about half when compared with the current population of the capital city. In this regard, Azim said sewerage issues are faced as the network is operated more than its capacity, adding discussions are underway to find a solution for the issue along with Male' City Council.

Moreover, Azim revealed the sewerage pipes have not been cleaned for over two years, describing it as a failure of the past administration. Noting the much needed expansion of the network, he revealed plans to install more water plants in Male' to provide better services.
