Presidential Commission asks to provide information for ongoing investigations

The Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances has once again asked public to come forward with any information which might be useful for the investigation of the murder of former Parliamentarian Dr. Afrasheem Ali and blogger Yameen Rasheed and the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.

In a tweet, the commission has asked anyone with information to come forward via social media or by mail. The commission has assured of anonymity and protection for those sharing information. Moreover, the commission has advised to send information anonymously to the commission.

The commission previously opened a one-month window to provide information. Furthermore, the commission revealed in the tweet, various number of cases have been submitted, adding the case list will be published next Sunday. The commission had aimed to conclude all cases on the list within three months.

The presidential commission has been granted all powers of an investigative authority. The commission is mandated to investigate murders and enforced disappearances which have taken place in Maldives from January 1, 2012, to November 17, 2018.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih established the commission on his first day in office.
