Foreign Minister hopes to strengthen bonds with traditional partners

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has expressed hope to strengthen bonds with traditional partners of Maldives and strive to make new friends in the year ahead.

In a message noting Maldivians celebrate a dorm of a new year filled with hope and optimism of better days ahead, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid said the government will do the best to fulfil the expectations of the Maldivians. Minister Shahid assured to continue to bolster resilience, strengthen preparedness to respond to consular emergencies in the year 2019.

Moreover, highlighting the main pillars of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's foreign policy are democracy, human rights and climate change, Minister Shahid affirmed to champion in those areas. He also noted the foreign ministry will increase engagement at the international fora in the year ahead, to strengthen bonds with traditional partners and strive to make new friends based on the three guiding principles.

Furthermore, the minister extended hope to reinforce the ability to offer more services to the Maldivians living abroad.
