Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has decided to convert youth centres in the islands to social centres. Following the decision, all youth centres in the islands have been renamed as social centres.
The change was made to make the centres accessible to as many people as possible, following the changes made to the mandate by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, according to the youth ministry. Due to the change, youth ministry said the centres can be utilised by people of all ages.
President Solih has handed over handling of all non-governmental organisations to youth ministry which was previously under the mandate of Ministry of Home Affairs.
