Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has revealed the schools are prepared for the academic new year.
Speaking at a press conference, Education Minister Aishath Ali noted preparations for the academic new year are underway, adding students will be handed text books on Sunday. Dismissing the concerns of the parents, Aishath Ali said text books will be handed over as planned on the first day of the academic new year. The minister emphasised the arrangements to distribute text books have been made at the schools.
The education minister made the comments at a time when some parents have raised concerns about the delay in distribution of text books and availability of school activity uniforms. Speaking about the concerns, Minister Aishath stated if students do not get new working uniforms by the time of academic new year, they can continue wearing the old uniforms, adding the old ones can be used until new ones are available.
Moreover, the minister noted teachers have been provided for 153 schools, upon request. She also reaffirmed the pilot project to provide breakfast for students will also commence with the start of the academic year.
Furthermore, Minister Aishath revealed efforts are underway to collect information required to change schools to one session. Speaking in this regard, the education minister revealed arrangements have been made in 134 schools to conduct studies to one session. Noting it is part of the first 100-day goals to transform all the schools to one session, the minister revealed an audit is planned to be conducted in all the school.
The academic new year will begin with over 70,000 students enrolled in 212 schools on January 13.
