Elections Commission of Maldives has revealed polling stations for the upcoming parliamentary election will be placed in 7 countries.
Speaking at a press conference, President of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef stated the ballot boxes will be kept in 8 cities in seven countries, adding at least 150 voters should be registered for each box. In this regard, Shareef revealed if 150 voters register, ballot boxes will be placed in New Delhi, Trivandrum, Colombo, Kuala Lampur, Singapore, Bangkok, Dhaka and London.
The Elections Commission said only those who wish to register at a different island or city than the registered location for the presidential election held during last September, will be required to re-register.
In contrast to previous elections, ballot boxes will be kept in resorts and industrial islands with at least 50 registered voters. Shareef expressed the Ministry of Tourism and Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has assured cooperation to place ballot boxes in those areas.
While the parliamentary election has been scheduled to be held on April 6, the Election Commission has also decided to establish the National Advisory Committee.
