Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef has expressed revolutionary changes will be seen with the introduction of new Child Rights Protection Act.
Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Minister Shidhatha stated the current Child Right Protection Act implemented in Maldives was passed in 1991, adding the existing law lacks major key points. In this regard, Minister Shidhatha highlighted the behavioural changes of children since 1991, noting the new act will address all relevant issues.
Moreover, the minister said following the ratification of the new Child Rights Protection Act, a framework to assess its implementation will be compiled. She also noted the importance of talking to children when compiling relevant laws.
