Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has decided to repair the machinery used at the Male' Commercial Harbour and lay new bricks in the area.
MPL has exerted major efforts to ease the import and export process for businessmen. However, the authority faces challenges due to lack of space and equipment.
Speaking to media, Chief Executive Officer Shahid Ali said the project to lay new bricks in the area where containers are kept will cost about USD 3 million. Shahid stated many equipment used in loading and unloading of containers have been damaged and it can only be used after repair and maintenance.
Shahid further revealed some equipment brought in 2016 were kept without use as there was not enough space in the yard. He expressed services would be provided quicker once all the equipment are repaired.
