Speaker of Maldivian Parliament Gasim Ibrahim and Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Maldives Major General (Rtd.) A.B. Thoradeniya USP have discussed ways to enhance the relations between the two countries. The discussions took place during a courtesy call by the ambassador on the speaker.
In the meeting held at the Secretariat of the Parliament, the speaker highlighted the traditional close ties Maldives have with Sri Lanka and noted the assistance provided to Maldives in its developmental efforts. He also held talks on further enhancing ties with Sri Lanka.
Highlighting the efforts by the ambassador to enhance ties with Maldives, Speaker Gasim expressed gratitude and wished for further closeness with Sri Lanka in the coming days.
Speaking at the meeting, the ambassador highlighted Maldives was a fond destination for Sri Lankans and assured Sri Lankans will always have a closeness with Maldivians.
Ambassador Thoradeniya assumed duties as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Maldives on February 2, 2017.
