Acting Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has revealed the police force has stopped issuing tickets for illegally parked vehicles.
Speaking to PSM News, acting Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said the decision was made following instructions from the government. Hameed said the force prioritises utilising authority according to the situation. In this regard, he added every police officer will be advised to uphold values and respect public.
Noting there are parking issues and an increase in the import of vehicles, the acting commissioner said issuing parking tickets without solving such issues is unacceptable. Moreover, Hameed revealed the police force spends a lot of time monitoring and issuing parking tickets, but somehow the government pardons the fines. He assured the police force will still take necessary action against driving without a license, speeding and other irresponsible practices.
Meanwhile, Male' City Council has begun to provide necessary parking space for vehicles in the capital city.
