Former Defence Minister files case to investigate allegations he was framed

Former Minister of Defence Colonel (Rtd.) Mohamed Nazim has filed a case at Maldives Police Service, to investigate allegations he was framed.

In a tweet, the former defence minister alleged he was kept in custody over false allegations and it was clear the reasons were political. He further said he believes the police should investigate the case and take action against perpetrators, adding he has officially filed a case.

Moreover, Nazim added he met with acting Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed and shared details regarding the case.

Nazim was imprisoned for 11 years after he was found in possession of a firearm at his residence. However, the Supreme Court overturned the verdict from the Criminal Court and High Court, setting Nazim free from all charges.

Meanwhile, the acting commissioner of police assured allegations against police officers will be investigated. Speaking in an exclusive interview to PSM News, the acting commissioner said discussions will be held with the Prosecutor General's Office and National Integrity Commission (NIC) to inquire how investigations on such allegations can be launched. He had expressed concern over allegations against police officers of working under political influence, planting evidence or obstructing investigations.
