Police Intelligence and Counter-terrorism Centre to assist Special Committee

Special committee assembled by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has held extensive discussions to find a solution to the uprising issue in social media platforms on religious criticism targeted to the Islamic faith.

At the committee’s first meeting held at the President’s Office, after extensive discussions, apart from the relevant authorities within the committee, the member decided to get further assistance and cooperation from National Centre for Counter Terrorism and Police Intelligence in solving the matter and safeguarding the sanctity of the Islamic faith, being intolerant to brutality and religious turmoil among the society as stated in the constitution of the Maldives and the manifesto of the joint coalition.

On January 22, President Solih assembled a committee to find a solution to the uprising issue on religious criticism targeted to Islamic faith upon the advisement of the cabinet. The members of the committee include Vice President Faisal Naseem, Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and Chief of Staff, at the President's Office Ali Zahir.
