Highlighting on the efforts, Home Minister Imran Abdulla expressed hope arrangements are made to increase women representation in local councils when the act is amended under an initiative of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Minister Imran Abdulla noted mostly women and children are victimised in Maldives, adding an increase in women representation in local councils will decrease social issues.

The Attorney General's Office has begun collecting public opinion to amend the Decentralisation Act of the Maldives. The Attorney General's Office revealed it has opened opportunity for suggestions until February 3. The office added meetings are underway with government ministries, non-government organisations, social organisations, public service providers and the public to inquire ideas before amending the act.
