Qasim calls Elections Commission regarding PNC

Speaker of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim has called Elections Commission, regarding the delay in registering People's National Congress (PNC).

In a press conference held by PNC, along with Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Parliamentarian Abdul Raheem Abdulla revealed Elections Commission is obstructing the formation of PNC for personal reasons, adding the complaints have been forwarded to the Speaker of Parliament.

Speaking to PSM News, member of Elections Commission Ismail Habeeb revealed Qasim Ibrahim called and inquired about the registration of PNC, raising questions why the procedure is slow. Habeeb assured political parties are registered within limits outlined in the constitution and without any discrimination. He further refuted comments that the electoral body is acting on a personal vendetta.
