The income received to the state as tax has increased by 7% in 2018. The state received a tax income of USD 1.058 billion in 2018, while USD 980 million was collected in the previous year, according to statistics of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
MIRA stated the largest number of income was generated via Goods and Services Tax (GST). In this regard, MIRA collected USD 490 million as GST last year which attributes to 47% of total tax income. Meanwhile, USD 303 million was collected as Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST).
The second most income was received from resort rent. In this regard, MIRA collected USD 96.786 million as resort rent which attributed to 17% of total income. Moreover, MIRA received USD 41.682 million as Airport Development Fee, over USD 129 million as Business Profit Tax and USD 52.264 million as Green Tax.
Last year, the most income was generated in January which was recorded at USD 135.5 million, according to statistics.
