Prosecutor General’s Office has withdrawn the terrorism charges raised against former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, his son Parliamentarian Faris Maumoon and his son-in-law Mohamed Nadheem.
In separate letters sent to the defendants, the Prosecutor General’s Office said it has decided to withdraw the terrorism charges and sent back the cases to Maldives Police Service. The charges were raised against the defendants alleging they were attempting to overthrow the lawfully elected government of Maldives.
The Criminal Court of Maldives has begun hearing on the cases when the Prosecutor General’s Office made the decision to not go further ahead with pressing the charges.
