PG Office dismisses terrorism charges on former Chief Justice and two Parliamentarians

Prosecutor General’s Office has dismissed terrorism charges on former Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Parliamentarians Ilham Ahmed and Abdulla Sinan.

The state raised terrorism charges against Abdulla Saeed and two parliamentarians following an attempt to allegedly overthrow the lawfully elected government. However, the charges has been dismissed and sent back to Maldives Police Service, according to Prosecutor General’s Office.

Although, terrorism charges were withdrawn, the state has not dismissed the charges against Abdulla Saeed for obstruction of justice, abuse of power and charges of bribery. He was found guilty of two of the aforementioned charges and sentenced to 3 years 11 months and 28 days in prison.

Yesterday, the state has dismissed terrorism charges raised against former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, his son Faris Maumoon, his son-in-law Mohamed Nadheem and Parliamentarian Abdulla Riyaz.
