Government begins reviewing the actions against councillors

The government of Maldives has begun reviewing the actions taken by the former administration against councillors.

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla revealed the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will not tolerate actions taken against any individual for a political purpose. On the same note, Home Minister Imran said the unjust actions against councillors will be reviewed in the coming days in efforts to ensure justice.

The home minister who is also the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA) said the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom suspended several councillors for various political reasons. The former administration also took all the authority from the councils to the state.

However, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has begun efforts to grant authority and powers to local councils. In this regard, the administration has also commenced reviewing and amending the Decentralisation Act.
