Supreme Court rules against transferring Adeeb to house arrest

Supreme Court of Maldives has ordered to postpone implementing the High Court ruling to transfer former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb to house arrest.

Supreme Court ordered all relevant authorities to hold implementing the High Court ruling, unless the Supreme Court comes to a conclusion on the High Court ruling. Supreme Court mentioned the order comes following the request of the state to order the authorities against acting upon the High Court ruling. The state requested the Supreme Court to rule the High Court decision is invalid.

Following the request, the Supreme Court ruled to order the authorities to hold implementing the High Court ruling until the Supreme Court concludes its stand on the verdict.

Former Vice President Adeeb, serving 33-years in prison for terrorism and corruption charges, was transferred to house arrest late Monday evening, following the High Court order.
