Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM) reveals over 30 contestants will compete in the upcoming parliamentary elections from tickets provided by MRM.
MRM said the contestants will compete as independent candidates.108 individuals expressed interest to contest on a ticket provided by MRM. While the movement decided to grant tickets to 32 applicants, more individuals will be granted tickets, according to MRM.
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said party tickets will be provided for the 12 reinstated parliamentarians. Meanwhile, former President Maumoon has begun the process to form a political party.
Within the government coalition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is running for 86 constituencies and Adhalaath Party is running for 13 constituencies while remaining Jumhooree Party and Maumoon Reform Movement has not yet announced a particular number.
