Maldives fisheries sector needs to have a foothold in the global fisheries industry

Managing Director of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) Ismail Fauzee has revealed several efforts need to be exerted for Maldives fisheries sector to have a foothold in the global fisheries industry.

Speaking at a ceremony held to celebrate the 41st anniversary of Felivaru Fish Factory, Managing Director Fauzee noted the fisheries sector is very competitive globally, adding companies such as MIFCO must exert major efforts to enhance the local fisheries sector. Fauzee added the capacity of the Felivaru Fish Factory must be enhanced to develop the products. Noting several changes have been brought to the operations of MIFCO, he said more changes will be implemented in the coming days.

Felivaru is a government owned company specialising in producing premium quality canned tuna and cooked loins for local and export markets.
