Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to hold discussion to drop some constituencies for Adhaalath Party.
The two leaders of the ruling coalition, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla and former President Mohamed Nasheed recently held discussions regarding the parliamentary elections. During the meeting, Adhaalath Party made several proposals to MDP.
Further, an unofficial MDP national council meeting was held in Marble Hotel. Following the council meeting, Mohamed Nasheed told the media, the council expressed MDP to compete in the parliamentary elections with Adhaalath Party. However, Nasheed revealed MDP did not yet decide to vacate any seats for the coalition partner. Nasheed said even though swift decisions were not made, the council has granted permission for him to discuss with contestants of about five constituencies to drop out from the elections.
Furthermore, Nasheed revealed the details will be disclosed in the coming days. Speaking to media, the former president highlighted Adhaalath Party wants to work with MDP, as they fully support the Agenda 19 manifesto of the main ruling party.
Meanwhile, all political parties must make their final decisions regarding the parliamentary elections and submit the contestant forms before February 21, according to the Elections Commission.
