Defence Ministry calls to refrain from spreading misinformation

Ministry of Defence has said the interview given by Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi for an Indian news outlet is being circulated to defame the defence sector for political gain.

In a statement, defence ministry said some individuals misinterpreted and spread excerpts of the interview, given to an Indian new outlet during her trip to India last month, to create chaos in the country and to danger the sovereignty.

Speaking to Indian media outlet, Minister Mariya said even though the capacity of Indian military is incomparable to that of Maldives, both countries have always respected the peace and sovereignty of each other. She assured both countries will continue to follow the principles in the future as well.

The defence minister also refuted rumours the radar systems are installed in Maldives, as a strategy by India to take over the country. In this regard, the minister said the radar systems does not benefit India, but the need of the equipment for Maldives are far greater.

The defence ministry condemned spreading parts of her quotes to disrupt the peace and stability of the country. Minister Mariya will continue her efforts to maintain peace and security of the country, according to the statement.
