PPM-PNC conclude joint primaries

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) have held joint primaries for six constituencies.

Primaries were held to select candidates for Makunudhoo, Alifushi, Thulusdhoo, Felidhoo, Mulah and Kinbidhoo constituencies. 19 candidates contested the primaries. In this regard, Yashfa Abdul Ghani won the ticket for Makunudhoo while Ahmed Hussain won the ticket for Alifushi.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Fazul, who headed the state-owned Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) during the presidency of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, won the ticket for Felidhoo, while Ahmed Khaleel won the ticket for Kinbidhoo.

Further, Maryam Juhaina Sodiq won the ticket for Mulah, while former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ahmed Siddeeq won the ticket for Thulusdhoo.

PPM-PNC coalition said the primary polls proceeded without incident. However, primaries for North Fuvahmulah and Nolhivaram constituencies have been postponed.

PPM has already awarded tickets to 63 candidates, without a primary election.
