Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed it is a target of the administration to develop Hanimaadhoo Airport to cater international flights in efforts to expand tourism in the northern atolls. The tourism minister made the statement while meeting officials from the island council and other institutions in Dhidhdhoo of Haa Alifu Atoll.
During his trip to Dhidhdhoo, the minister heard the grievances of the citizens and discussed the plans of the administration to develop tourism in the region. He vowed to develop Hanimaadhoo Airport so that it would have the capacity to cater international flights.
The minister also highlighted the potential the island had for guesthouse development and operation. He noted how the process could be easier facilitated for the youth via loans from SME Bank.
The stop in Dhidhdhoo is part of the tour of the atolls to observe the situation of the tourism sector in various regions. In this regard, the minister has visited Hanimaadhoo, Kulhudhuffushi, Dhidhdhoo and Kelaa.
