Ziyath transferred to house arrest

Maldives Correctional Service has transferred former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to house arrest.

Although the authority confirmed the decision, no further details were made public. Ziyath, who is serving an 8-year prison sentence for corruption, has 31 charges made against him. He is involved in one of the biggest corruption scandals in Maldives, with over USD 90 million embezzled from MMPRC.

In the same case, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb is serving a 33-year prison sentence after he was found guilty for terrorism and corruption.
