Minister of Finance Ahmed Ameer has revealed major efforts are underway to introduce more international banks in Maldives.
The government has initiated and are currently implementing plans to improve the financial sector of the country. In this regard, finance ministry is in discussions with several international banks to introduce their branches in Maldives.
Finance Minister Ameer said currently discussions are held with authorities to introduce outlets of investment banks and small and medium enterprise banks in Maldives. Highlighting it is a pledge of the administration to develop Maldives as an Islamic finance hub, Ameer stated it will benefit the financial sector of the country immensely.
Furthermore, the minister said the changes that needs to be brought and adapted are fast underway. He noted the importance of a healthy financial sector in order to enhance the economy of Maldives.
