High Court of Maldives has dismissed a lawsuit filed to appeal the verdict of the lower court ordering four children of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to pay over USD 129,332 to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction private limited (RCC).
In 2017, Civil Court of Maldives ordered the four children of former President Maumoon to pay over USD 129,332 to RCC, which is owned by the family of former Minister of Defence Colonel (Rtd.) Mohamed Nazim.
Ahmed Faris Maumoon, Ghassan Maumoon, Yumna Maumoon and Dunya Maumoon are listed as co-respondents of the case. RCC filed the case against the four siblings, saying that a seven-storey building was constructed on Chaandhanee Magu but that they were not paid for the work.
The verdict of Civil Court was appealed at High Court by Ghassan Maumoon. However, the High Court dismissed the appeal case citing abstention to the hearing. Even though the case is dismissed, the case can again be appealed within 14 days, according to High Court regulations.
