City Council proposes to control number of vehicles in Male'

Male' City Council has proposed to control the number of vehicles in Male' City, in efforts to minimise traffic and congestion.

Speaking at a press conference held by Male' City Council, Mayor Sifa Mohamed said the traffic and overcrowding in Male' is caused due to import of vehicles without any control. The council has proposed to discuss the issue with Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, according to the mayor. She stated parking issues and traffic are mainly caused by unused and parked vehicles.

The mayor of the capital city further highlighted there are several vehicles which have not been used for a long time, adding towing vehicles is also not easy. She said towing is not a sustainable solution for the issue, revealing the number of vehicles need to be controlled to sustainably solve the issue. She noted discussions are currently underway to find solutions for parking in Male'.
