President did not see the report on MMPRC before it was published

Chief Communications Strategist and the Spokesperson at the President’s Office Ibrahim Hood has refuted rumours that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has seen the investigative report publicised by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the corruption scandal of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

In a tweet, the spokesperson assured the president had not seen the report before it was published. The report shows senior government figures had funds deposited to their bank accounts from SOF Private Limited, the company which was deposited over USD 68.4 million instead of the account of MMPRC. The senior government figures include Minister of Youth, Sports and Social Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof, who received USD 33,000, and State Minister at Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure Akram Kamaludeen, who received USD 30,000.

Since then, President Solih has relieved the two officials from their duties until the investigations conclude.
