Nasheed meets Indian Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister

Former President Mohamed Nasheed meets Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

Following the meeting held with the Indian prime minister, as part of his visit to India, the former president said a strong, stable and prosperous Maldives is not just in the interests of the Maldivian people, but would also benefit the whole Indian Ocean region. Nasheed also mentioned the discussions were successful even though no further details were revealed.

Moreover, as part of his visit, Nasheed met with Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj. During the meeting held in New Delhi, discussions were held on 3 areas of mutual concern which included climate change, extremism and the danger of Maldives falling into a debt trap because of the reckless borrowing by the previous administration.

The former president travelled to India on an invitation from Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
