Police begins investigating cases identified in ACC report on MMPRC

Maldives Police Service has begun investigating the cases identified in the detailed investigative report on the corruption scandal of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) published by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Speaking to PSM News, acting Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed revealed the Economic Crime Department has now begun investigating the cases detailed in the report. The acting commissioner expressed investigating corruption and funds obtained by abuse of power are under the mandate of ACC adding however, there are some cases in the report which needs to be further investigated by the police. He further noted the relevance of the evidence received and the details included in the report will be investigated.

Meanwhile, some people have accused the ACC report is incomplete as it does not include some key names involved in the corruption scandal. Moreover, others have accused the corruption funds were deposited to members of ACC and their families.

The report published by ACC shows investigation on 57 islands, further highlighting the acquisition cost of the islands were deposited to other bank accounts after endorsing checks rather than depositing it to the bank account of MMPRC.
