Elections Commission receives 183 candidacy forms

Elections Commission has revealed 183 candidacy forms have been received so far for the upcoming parliamentary election.

Candidacy forms from six political parties and from several independent candidates have been received so far, according to electoral body. While the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) submitted candidacy forms to compete for 86 constituencies, Adhaalath Party (AP) has submitted candidacy forms to compete for 7 constituencies. Meanwhile, Jumhooree Party (JP) has submitted 6 forms, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has submitted 14 forms, People's National Congress (PNC) has submitted 4 forms and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has submitted 7 forms.

Furthermore, 59 candidacy forms have been submitted by independent candidates, according to the Elections Commission. The deadline to submit candidacy forms for the parliamentary elections is February 21. The parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held on April 6, will elect parliamentarians for 87 constituencies.
