Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim has revealed opposition candidates must be elected to the parliament to hold the government accountable when needed. Qasim made the remarks while speaking at the campaign launching ceremony in Maamigili in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
Addressing the function, Qasim said it is understandable the government coalition must secure the majority, adding however, opposition candidates must also be elected. Moreover, Qasim expressed to grant majority to one single party within the coalition is unacceptable, adding opposition representation is also important to hold the government accountable.
Speaking at the campaign launch to secure the seat for the third consecutive term, Qasim revealed JP does not want a parliament majority, but rather wishes the government coalition to attain the majority of the seats. He called to cooperate and vote for the government coalition candidates.
