President meets Villingili Island Council, senior officials of the island

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with members of the Villingili Island Council, as part of his visit to Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

At the meeting held at Villingili Council Office, members of the council shared information on challenges and concerns of the islands community and future development projects planned for the development of the island. In this regard, the council members emphasized the challenges faced by the Islanders due to the lack of some of the basic necessities and urban resources required for the island. They further shared information on the planned projects for the social and economic development of the island.

Speaking at the meeting, President Solih stated the administration would take necessary action after discussing with the line ministries and tackle these problems. He also stated the objective of such meetings with the island councils are to find out the people’s concerns and needs of the community.

Furthermore, President Solih stated the administration would work on fulfilling the needs and requirements prioritised by the people.

The president also met with senior officials working at various institutions in Villingili.

At the meeting held at the Villingili Atoll Hospital meeting room, senior officials briefed the president on the administration and the challenges faced in carrying out the work of the different institutes. Moreover, they briefed the President on the aspiration and requests of the people of the island in developing the community. In this regard, they noted that the Atoll Hospital is facing issues due to lack of resources and space. Further, they noted that they want to establish a local branch of Maldives National University (MNU) to allow students to gain knowledge while staying in the island.

During the visit, President Solih visited several departments of the hospital and enquired about the situation. He also met with the patients and inquired about their state of health.
