Gender Minister participates in Regional Women Leaders' Dialogue

Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef has participated in the fourth iteration of the Regional Women Leaders' Dialogue: Breaking Barriers, held in New Delhi, India. The minister attended the meeting upon invitation of the Canadian Ambassador to Maldives David McKinnon. The meeting, an initiative by the Canadian government, was held from February 21-22.

At the meeting, Minister Shidhatha shared the efforts of the administration to empower women and the challenges faced. In this regard, she noted the efforts by the administration to implement rights granted to women via the Gender Equality Act and the efforts to increase the representation of women at the decision making level.

Furthermore, the education minister met with the Canadian Ambassador to Maldives. During the meeting, the minister briefed the ambassador about the current political atmosphere and discussed opportunities, challenges and concerns for female candidates contesting the April polls.
