Transport Authority to strengthen the regulations in issuing driving licenses

Maldives Transport Authority has revealed plans to strengthen the regulations in issuing driving licenses.

Speaking at a press conference, Assistant Director Hussain Nazeer said efforts are underway to participate in Road Traffic Convention of United Nations to strengthen the regulations. Nazeer stated special training programmes will be held for individuals seeking licenses for the first time once Maldives participate in the convention. He added a special syllabus has now been formulated to begin the training programmes.

The Convention on Road Traffic, participated by over 35 countries, is an international treaty designed to facilitate international road traffic and to increase road safety by establishing standard traffic rules among the contracting parties.

Recent times have seen a hike in the number of road accidents in Maldives, although the government has initiated various efforts to minimise the road accidents.
