Elections commission renews calls for candidacy applications

Elections Commission (EC) has reopened application window for candidates seeking to contest the upcoming Parliamentary Election. According to Elections Commission, candidates can submit forms before March 4.

The electoral body reopened application opportunity following the Supreme Court order nullifying the amendment to the Political Parties Act, which states persons defeated in party primaries cannot compete at the relevant elections. Concluding the case presided by the full strength of the Supreme Court bench, Supreme Court ordered the electoral body to accept application forms until March 4, of those who seek to compete in the parliamentary elections as independents, despite facing defeat in party primaries.

The parliamentary election is scheduled for April 6.
