Elections Commission (EC) has called on all detainees in all four detention centres across the country to be re-registered for the parliamentary elections.
In a tweet, the electoral body said although people who wish to cast votes for the April polls in the same station as the September polls did not require to register, there was an exception when it came to detainees. Thereby, detainees need to be reregistered before 1500 hours on March 2.
For the April polls, 4 ballot boxes would be placed in Male' Prison, Dhoonidhoo Prison, Maafushi Prison and Himmafushi Prison.
The commission also noted the lacklustre response to re-registration so far and called on those few that require to register to hasten and submit their applications.
