Vice President meets Hirilandhoo Island Council

Vice President Faisal Naseem has met with the council members of Hirilandhoo in Thaa Atoll.

At a meeting held at the President’s Office, members of the council shared their concerns and future development projects with the vice president. During the meeting, the councillors noted the challenges being faced due to the shortage of land, lack of budget at the council, lack of medicines at the local pharmacy and the lack of street lights at the harbour area. The members also noted the requirements of the island school and health centre to cater for the populace and exchanged ideas on how to expand the island’s economy. Further, they requested a fish aggregating device.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Faisal Naseem highlighted the activities that could be undertaken by the councils for the socioeconomic progress of the island communities. The vice president also asked the council members to reinforce their activities held jointly with the schools to ensure the further strengthening of the school system. Moreover, vice president urged the council members to always put forth public safety, and called upon the council members to ensure all safety measures are put in place. He further advised the councillors to organise more awareness campaigns related to preventative health measures. Furthermore, vice president requested councillors to work jointly with the Island’s community in order to speed up the development of the Island.

During the meeting, Vice President Naseem stated the administration would take necessary action after discussing with the relevant ministries. He also reiterated that no island will be left behind by the administration’s development agenda.
