Have noticed bribing during campaign activities: HRCM

Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has stated it has noticed bribing to influence the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In a statement, HRCM said it is closely monitoring the electoral procedure and campaigning process. HRCM noted it has noticed anti-campaigning and activities that demean the electoral rights of candidates.

Moreover, HRCM stated cases of commenting on candidate’s personal lives and bribing have been identified so far. Noting the upcoming elections is contested by many candidates from several political parties and individually as well, HRCM has called to respect electoral laws.

The commission appealed to respect the electoral rights, stop influencing the vote and to refrain from violating basic human rights.
