ECM grants permission to candidates to officially launch campaigns

Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has granted permission to candidates to officially launch their campaigns for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The candidature number ordering ceremony was held at the main office of the ECM. During the ceremony, candidates for all 87 constituencies were arranged and ordered. While 406 candidature forms were received by ECM, 5 forms were eliminated and 8 candidates have withdrawn their names. Therefore, 393 candidates will compete for the upcoming elections.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of ECM Ahmed Shareef reiterated the campaigning activities will be closely monitored by the commission. Noting all candidates can now submit their logos and slogans for the campaign, Shareef called to make sure the logos and slogans fit the requirements.

While the parliamentary elections is scheduled to be held on April 6, the electoral body has decided to place 507 ballot places.
