Over 7,000 individuals to work as monitors, observers and media personnel

Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) reveals over 7,000 individuals will work as monitors and observers in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

President of ECM Ahmed Shareef said 1,663 individuals are registered as candidate representatives, while 3,624 observers from Maldives will be present altogether. Moreover, Shareef revealed media personnel amounts to 2,229.

The president of electoral body expressed international observers from 11 countries will arrive in Maldives, including 4 monitors from international non-government organisations.

The parliamentary elections is scheduled to be held on April 6. While 389 candidates are competing for parliament seats, ECM has decided to place 501 ballot boxes. 264,589 people are eligible to cast votes in the parliamentary elections, according to the voters' list.
