Maldives reiterate support to combat islamophobia

Minister of State for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel has revealed to Maldives after attending the emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Istanbul, Turkey.

Speaking at the meeting, State Minister Khaleel reiterated support of Maldives to combat Islamophobia and welcomed the response by the Government of New Zealand in the aftermath of the incident.

The emergency meeting was initiated by the OIC Summit Chair, Turkey, to discuss the increasing violence based on Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia, in particular the terrorist attack targeted two mosques in New Zealand on March 15. Representatives from international organisations such as the United Nations, European Union and Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) attended the meeting.
