Police says security at April 6 polls would be stronger

Maldives Police Service has stated security measures for the upcoming parliamentary elections would be enhanced compared to the previous elections.

Addressing a press conference, Election Security Commander of Maldives Police Service, Chief Superintendent of Police Abdulla Shareef said the force is fully prepared for the parliamentary elections.

Chief Superintendent Shareef assured the police would be collaborating with the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) in the delivery of ballot papers and ballot boxes to the polling stations. He assured security at ECM and at the polling stations would be stronger than before. He said no one can access the security room where ballot boxes are stored, without the knowledge of the police. He added all relevant training has been completed and officers who are to be deployed to various polling stations have been assigned.

Maldives Police Service is also holding discussions with members of parliament and candidates contesting to ensure security measures for them. The institution reiterated that no room would be given for chaos during the polls.
