Guide activities teach many skills needed for life: Chief Guide

Chief Guide and First Lady Fazna Ahmed has appealed to all guides to work towards learning life skills through guiding movement, rather than working to achieve just a badge. The first lady made the remarks at the Annual General Meeting 2018 of Maldives Girl Guides Association (MGGA).

Addressing the ceremony as the chief guest, First Lady Fazna hailed the continuous efforts of MGGA in building and empowering girls and young women across Maldives. In this regard, she advised to get inspiration from long serving leaders of MGGA and strive to become one of them to serve the country.

Furthermore, the first lady expressed all guides should prioritise implementing the lessons learnt during the time spent in the movement in daily livelihoods. Noting the biggest challenge, according to MGGA, is the lack of a proper campsite, first lady expressed hope the issue will be solved swiftly.

During the ceremony, the chief guide conferred awards and certificates to recipients of honorary award, regional award and long serving members.

With more the 6,000 members from around 60 schools across the nation, MGGA is the largest voluntary, non-profit organisation for girls and young women in Maldives. The mission of MGGA is to enable girls and young women to develop and attain their full potential as responsible citizens of the country, while aiming to provide a programme embracing wide range of activities and interesting hobbies while enjoyable, in themselves have an underlying educational purpose, namely to develop individual character based on the values in the Promise and Law. MGGA is a member of the world's largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women, World Association for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
