Government has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to construct main roads of Eydhafushi in Baa Atoll. The agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed and COO of MTCC Shahid Hussain Moosa.
Under the agreement, MTCC will construct and develop 3.3 kilometres of roads in the island. The main roads of the island will be developed with a storm water management system. The agreement requires the company to install LED street lights, construction of speed breakers and establish road markings, according to MTCC. The project is estimated to cost over USD 123,000.
The road development project in Eydhafushi was previously conducted by Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC). However, once MRDC was abolished, the project has been on halt for a long period of time.
