Government of Maldives has government with United Nations (UN) to work towards empowering and developing youth and young children. The agreement was signed by Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Mohamed Azmeel and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Representative to Maldives Munir Safieldin.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Azmeel said the agreement was formulated after several researches from the relevant authorities.
Under an agreement signed in 2016 with United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), progress should be made in 4 sectors by 2020. The latest agreement says stakeholders will work together to empower young children and youth, develop social services and develop skills and talents by providing more opportunities.
Under the agreement, surveys will be done to identify challenges faced for youth and children. The 5-year plan consists of 3 major agreements.
