Government to develop Hanimaadhoo Airport

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has stated Hanimaadhoo Airport will see standard developments to cater international airlines within the next five years.

Speaking to media regarding the latest statistics, the tourism minister said the government aims to introduce tourism in all parts of country. In this regard, the minister stated the government specifically aims to introduce tourism in the north of the country, revealing plans to develop Hanimaadhoo Airport to cater international airlines.

Furthermore, Minister Ali Waheed said special efforts are underway to increase the airlines operating to Maldives, adding recently discussions were held with Singapore Airlines to expand its scope in Maldives. The minister noted Velana International Airport (VIA) lacks space to provide services while the government exert efforts to enhance tourism across the country. He expressed hope commencing operations by utilising the new runway and terminal will ease the challenges.
