Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has expressed concern about the quality of healthcare available in atolls. Minister Ameen made the remarks, addressing the press after an event held commemorating the World Health Day.
Speaking to the press, the Health Minister said, he personally visited and assessed the situation of many health facilities in islands, after he assumed office. He observed that the healthcare situation in islands are worrying.
Shedding light on the arrangements in place for medical services and equipment in the outer islands, the minister said that the whole healthcare system is in need of major development. In this regard, minister revealed, a needs assessment is underway to enhance the quality of services and to attain the necessary budget, to improve the sector.
Furthermore, minister Ameen said, some regulations of the health sector needed to be changed, in order to facilitate the provision of efficient healthcare.
